In Absence #1 Poster

"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.” Aldous Huxley, Brave New World.

It is no coincidence that Monika Macdonald chose a quote from Brave New World that begins with "But" in her book. A sentence beginning with "but"/"but" hangs between something that has been said and something to be said. In Macdonald's photography in the exhibition In Absence, what is otherwise unspoken is contained and pulsates. A mirror image of our time where old patterns are broken up but the new ones are not communicated, where the defined normal remains in a state that many have already left.

That which exists in the absence, in absence, of the definition, but which is flesh and blood in daily life: abandoned - become, divorced - newly found, single - solitary...
