In the exhibition ‘Like a Horse’ the curator, Sophie Mörner in collaboration with Fotografiska, gathered about 100 works of art with the intention of bringing our current idea of the horse as animal to light. By showing different ways of portraying the horse - in different situations and cultural contexts - Mörner hopes to broaden our understanding of the animal. Therefore, there is something for everyone in this very varied mix. The photographer, the queer theorist and the horse lover – there’s something to inspire everyone. The exhibition provides an opportunity to rediscover the horse as an animal, as well as a new perspective to the relationship between the horse and humans and, of course, horse photography as an art form. At the same time as the opening of the exhibition the publishing house Max Ström released a book with the same name.

Throughout history, the horse and its rider have had very different roles and costumes. The warrior was one of the firsts in the saddle, later replaced by the cowboy and in today’s society the horse girl is often the one holding the reins. In the world of equestrian sports men and women compete together, which cannot be found in almost any other sport. Though it is also considered a sport for the more privileged, with little to none ethic diversity.
This poster is a’s contribution to the exhibition. A photograph in color of a horse and a native american woman standing on a meadow.
