Published exclusively for Fotografiska New York’s first ever museum-wide exhibition, David LaChapelle –– make BELIEVE, and produced in close collaboration with David LaChapelle Studio, is a feast for the eyes both inside and outside. On the cover of the exhibition catalogue is LaChapelle’s heavenly 1 Samuel 18:1, softly contrasting the silver-printed exhibition title and artist’s name at the top and bottom respectively. Inside the catalogue awaits a plethora of exhibition images chaptered into LaChapelle’s works on glass, paper, and film –– but before we enjoy the complexity of these images, we are welcomed by texts from Fotografiska’s Director of Global Exhibitions Johan Vikner, artist David LaChapelle, and art history scholars Nathalie Dietschy and Gianni Mercurio. The catalogue concludes with a list of LaChapelle’s exhibitions spanning nearly the last thirty five years.
